Renters and Condo Insurance in Missouri
Protection designed for the home you rent or the condo you own.
A landlord or condominium association policy does not replace your own coverage. Your policy can protect personal belongings, personal liability, temporary living expenses and portions of the unit you are responsible for.
Renters insurance
Renters coverage can protect your belongings and provide personal liability protection without insuring the building itself.
Condo insurance
Condo owners need to understand the association master policy and governing documents. Interior improvements, deductibles assessed to owners and loss assessment exposure deserve careful review.

Coverage solutions we help you compare
We explain the available coverage choices and the tradeoffs that matter for your situation.
Renters: replacement-cost belongings protection
For renters, we compare belongings limits and available replacement-cost coverage. We consider what you own, the deductible and lease requirements rather than assuming the landlord’s minimum is enough to replace your possessions.
Condo: unit coverage matched to the master policy
We review available association insurance information and your unit responsibilities to help select dwelling and interior coverage. Improvements, fixtures and the association’s insurance arrangements can change what your own policy needs to address.
Condo: loss assessment and association deductible options
We compare available assessment coverage, limits and restrictions, including how the policy treats association deductibles. Not every assessment is insurable, and maintenance or improvement assessments are different from covered-loss assessments.
Temporary housing and additional living expense limits
We review available additional living expense limits and time restrictions so you understand what help may be available if your home cannot be occupied after covered damage.
Valuables and optional water protection
Jewelry and other valuables can have special limits, while water backup and flood raise different coverage questions. We help renters and condo owners compare available endorsements, scheduled coverage and separate flood options, with the limits and exclusions explained for their situation.
Personal liability and guest medical payments
We compare available personal liability and medical payments options for renters and condo owners, considering lease requirements, household exposures and umbrella needs. We explain the limits and exclusions rather than treating protection for your belongings as the whole policy.
Coverage and eligibility depend on the insurer, underwriting and actual policy terms.
Questions worth asking
Does my landlord’s insurance cover my possessions?
Generally, no. The landlord insures their own property and exposures. Renters need their own policy for eligible belongings, personal liability and other selected coverages.
Is renters insurance required by Missouri law or my lease?
Missouri generally does not require renters insurance by state law, but a landlord or property manager may require it in your lease. A condo owner’s obligations are different and may come from a mortgage lender or association documents. We can review the requirements relevant to your home.
Can roommates share one renters policy?
Carrier rules and household relationships vary. Do not assume a roommate’s belongings or liability are covered by your policy. We can review the household and explain available arrangements.
What affects renters and condo insurance costs?
Location, belongings values, liability limits, deductible, claims and optional coverages can affect either policy. Condo pricing also reflects unit responsibilities and improvements. We compare available options, including multi-policy discounts, without treating renters and condo insurance as one interchangeable product.
Are my belongings covered if stolen away from home?
Personal property coverage may extend to covered theft away from home, such as a laptop stolen from a vehicle. Deductibles, special limits and location restrictions can apply. Tell us about items kept in storage or used for business so we can review any different limitations.
Helpful next steps
Renters and condo owners need different policies. For a condo review, share the association insurance information, governing requirements and unit improvements along with your current coverage.
